Think poetry's boring? Think again, there's this.

My brand new husband is gone for the week: not easy on a couple of lovesick newlyweds, I can tell ya!  So yesterday, as I languished in my solitude over a cup of coffee and some reading, I came across this poem. It is such delicious perfection. Seriously. It became a personal fave right quick, and ran through my mind all day! I had to send it to the Husband to tell him I miss him.  Love it, maybe you will too:

"I am not the first person you loved.
You are not the first person I looked at
with a mouthful of forevers. We
have both known loss like the sharp edges
of a knife. We have both lived with lips
more scar tissue than skin. Our love came
unannounced in the middle of the night.
Our love came when we’d given up
on asking love to come. I think
that has to be part
of its miracle.

This is how we heal.
I will kiss you like forgiveness. You
will hold me like I’m hope. Our arms
will bandage and we will press promises
between us like flowers in a book.
I will write sonnets to the salt of sweat
on your skin. I will write novels to the scar
of your nose. I will write a dictionary
of all the words I have used trying
to describe the way it feels to have finally,
finally found you.

And I will not be afraid
of your scars.

I know sometimes
it’s still hard to let me see you
in all your cracked perfection,
but please know:
whether it’s the days you burn
more brilliant than the sun
or the nights you collapse into my lap
your body broken into a thousand questions,
you are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
I will love you when you are a still day.
I will love you when you are a hurricane."

Chapter One.

A couple weeks ago, I got super lucky and married the most wonderful man human creature on planet Earth.  Along with having sleepovers with my best friend for the rest of my life, we get to go on lots of adventures together from here on out!  In light of this new chapter - or rather the start of a whole new novel - I kick off this blog, especially for these reasons:

1) The Husband and my grand adventures might take us far away from familiar places and loved ones. It can be madness trying to keep up with everyone when they're scattered all over the freakin' map!  So here's to connectivity and sharing life experiences, no matter where we are and what we're doing.

2) Lord forbid I should pick up a pen and do something old fashioned like journaling.  I think I've spent most of the days of my life intending to record some of the awesome (and not-so-awesome) stuff that goes on. Hasn't happened. Oops... even the best laid plans...

3) Sometimes, I find a really awesome recipe, watch a really great movie, see a really beautiful place, hear a really hilarious joke, or something similarly lovely goes on and it urgently deserves to be tasted, seen, heard, tried, and done by any and everyone!

So... here goes nothing.
